artist statement
Tamsin handmakes contemporary wall pieces. She is currently fascinated by repetition, inspired by the things we see everyday - road markings, signs, buildings and landscapes. Materials are handmade or manipulated with the idea of making textures and surfaces appear different to what they actually are. Having decided on material, form and colour, Tamsin makes hundreds of small similar units which are contained into shallow boxes as she transforms the units into an intergrated whole. Because the handcrafted, repetitive process makes each unit slightly different to the next, there is a dynamic vibrancy about the pieces. Her techniques allow for an infinite range of unique designs of any size. She likes her viewers to engage in the work, examining the texture and discovering how and what they are made of. Her multiples can be rearranged by the viewer. Those who commission her work are expected to engage in the process of selecting colours, sizes and materials to suit there environment.
